Brickell is the New Manhattan

As part of South Florida and Miami’s major financial district, Brickell has evolved to embrace a distinct urban core, thanks to the recent construction of new office and residential high-rises to accommodate over 25,000 residents. Today, the skyline of Brickell is reminiscent of another famous city and has earned the nickname of the “Manhattan of the South”.
The contemporary architecture reflected in the new construction has attracted a population with a median age of forty, according to the US Census Bureau. This makes Brickell one of the “youngest” cities in the nation. The sleek office buildings house 190,000 employees as of 2009, and in the center is Mary Brickell Village, which hosts a great entertainment section that rivals that of other cities. Fine dining and many upscale shopping venues are available here, and the Village is a popular hotspot for nightlife entertainment.
The Axis at Brickell Village, two residential twin towers completed in 2008, was designed by the Arquitectonica architecture firm and rise to 418 feet in height with 40 floors, even further enhancing the resemblance to Manhattan. Nichols Brosch Wurst Wolf & Associates designed another twin towers project, completed in 2007, named Plaza on Brickell and is also a residential building with a retail base. Soaring 610 feet into the air in the middle of the financial district, the buildings have 68 floors and are sleek and modern in design. These are but two of the new construction in recent years, but all have followed the contemporary design in architecture.
It’s not just the business conducted in Brickell that has cemented its reputation as the Manhattan of the South, but the innovative and contemporary design of the skyscrapers, high-rises, and residential buildings that reflect a distinct urban edge. With a younger population and diversified cultural base, Brickell is also similar in this way to Manhattan. Additionally, a variety of theaters, sports venues, museums, and many historic sites and parks are accessible.
The architecture of Brickell reflects a youthful and vibrant lifestyle, with a modern and contemporary backdrop. All this has created the migration of many contemporary furniture stores in Miami to the Brickell area. The recent building boom has elevated Brickell to another level of sophistication and elegance, with clean lines, mirrored surfaces, and a sleek appearance that hearkens to the city to which it is compared. However, make no mistake – when you enter Brickell, it has its own distinct flavor unique to the passionate people who inhabit the gorgeous and impressive high-rises. Bustling and alive, Brickell has definitely earned her nickname and truly lives up to the honor.
